Okochi Villa

The garden created by a star actor for 30 years

Okochi Sanso is a villa and garden built by Denjiro Okochi, a Showa-era movie actor, in a circular garden with views and borrowed scenery of Mount Hiei and the nearby Arashiyama – Hozukyo Gorge.
The grounds include a modern Japanese-style building designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan and a Japanese garden, where visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery in each of the four seasons. Especially during the season of autumn foliage, the garden is colored with rich colors, and visitors can spend a relaxing time while admiring the magnificent scenery.
The admission fee also includes matcha green tea and sweets, so visitors can enjoy a cup of tea after their tour.
For tourists and locals alike, Okochi Sanso is one of the must-see spots when visiting Arashiyama, a wonderful blend of history and nature.
